Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid Celebrates First Anniversary

One-of-a-kind attraction sees visitors from all 50 states, more than a dozen countries in its first year

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid, a destination retail attraction in downtown Memphis, is celebrating its first anniversary since opening its doors on April 29, 2015. Located inside a massive transformed sports arena, the dynamic, immersive adventure contains restaurants, shopping, a hotel and attractions designed to appeal to a wide variety of outdoor enthusiasts and families.

"Since opening one year ago Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid has welcomed customers from around the world and helped showcase everything the outdoors has to offer," said General Manager David Hagel. "We are grateful to the Memphis community for giving us such a positive reception and to our incredible team of associates who make each visit a special experience."

Officially the three millionth visitor is expected to enter the Pyramid sometime this weekend as the Memphis in May event kicks off. Not every customer enters via a turnstile, however, and the Pyramid's actual attendance is estimated to be significantly higher.

By the Numbers

Roughly three million visitors have experienced the Pyramid since April 29, 2015

Customers from all 50 states have shopped inside.

International customers from more than a dozen countries including Australia, Argentina, Germany and France have made a purchase.

The General Store has served 56 tons of fudge:

If you stacked every individual piece of fudge vertically, it would be 236 times taller than the Pyramid structure.

If you stacked the fudge pieces horizontally, you could cross the width of the Mississippi River by the Pyramid 157 times.

Family and Outdoor Events a Big Draw

Adding to the excitement are special events and activities that ensure there is always something new to see. Free events geared for families include Go Outdoors, Family Summer Camp, Spring Fishing Classic, Santa's Wonderland and other seasonal activities. Families can receive a free studio-quality photo at many of the events as a lasting memory.

This past fall the Pyramid hosted the first annual World's Hunting & Waterfowl Expo, the largest hunting and waterfowl event ever, with an unprecedented lineup of activities and special events for outdoor enthusiasts and families. The event drew tens of thousands of visitors and included free concerts, fireworks, celebrity appearances, duck calling contests and daily seminars and demonstrations for everyone from experts to beginners.

This July, the U.S. Open Bowfishing Championship, a new breed of fishing tournament and the largest event of its kind, is expanding and relocating to the Pyramid from Bass Pro Shops headquarters in Springfield, Missouri. This year's event will be held July 8 – 10 and features the largest competition and biggest prizes in the tournament's four-year history.

Additionally, The Lookout at the Pyramid, a signature dining experience located at the Pyramid's apex, has become a top restaurant draw with its lunch menu, dinner service and signature cocktails. The full service restaurant and bar includes a stunning 10,000-gallon catfish aquarium in the restaurant's center and the city's most unique view.

One of the Most Dynamic, Immersive Retail Experiences in the World

Envisioned by Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris as a national destination experience, the wide variety of experiences combined with an immersive design and unique setting inside a massive pyramid along the Mississippi River has earned Bass Pro Shops and the City of Memphis international recognition. Today the Pyramid has established itself as a "must-see" experience for visitors to the Memphis area.

Larger than life elements with a signature attention-to-detail make the Pyramid an unforgettable experience. Visitors can enjoy a vast assortment of outdoor gear, nearly 600,000 gallons of water features, a cypress swamp with soaring 100-foot-tall trees, the interactive Ducks Unlimited Waterfowling Heritage Center, Uncle Buck's Fish Bowl & Grill, an "underwater" bowling alley and restaurant, a wilderness hotel called Big Cypress Lodge and The Lookout, a breathtaking glass-floored cantilevering observation deck at the top of the 32-story steel Pyramid.
